Fair warning: I try to keep things curated, so don't post all the photos I get. Good resolution, a clear view of your hair and having a style that is interesting/ different are all super important factors.
Mop Shots A social network of sorts for hair enthusiasts with the tagline "Where did you get your hair did?" Be forewarned: Some of the U.S's largest cities still remain pretty sparsely represented.
Hair On The Brain Blog from an L.A.-based reader. Mostly pictures of celebrities, and not just short haired ones, although there is a "Short Hair" section on the sidebar.
Behind the Chair Hairgasm! Among other things, Behind the Chair showcases the latest hair "Collections" from top salons. About 1/3 of the pics are of short cuts, too, so you won't be short of inspiration next time you make the trek to the salon.
Hi Internets. I’ve been so busy with work that I barely realized that my hair is getting long. Like “I need barrettes to pin up the sides so I don’t look like swamp thing” long. I kind of look like Karen O without it. And Karen O’s cool and all, and her haircut’s really great for insinuating a certain rockstar swagger, but it’s not the most flattering for my face.
Hope you’re having a beautiful Sunday. Me - I’m going to pack up an orange, and go sit in the park and eat it. Maybe I’ll bring a napkin with me so my hands don’t get too sticky. And then maybe I’ll walk around the city and get a double Americano at someplace new. I need to do that more. And San Francisco’s weather is too beautiful right now to pass up.
Reader Lee cuts her hair herself, initially inspired by Audrey, but today styling it more ala Edie.
One thing Lee pointed out in her e-mail is how easygoing and confident short haircuts look. Agreed! You know the saying “Wear the dress, don’t let the dress wear you”? I don’t really like to talk/feature celebrities much here, but look at someone like Tina Fey. Her dresses ALWAYS wear her. She’s uncomfortable to look at. But someone like Chloe Sevigny could wear her same dresses and look like a complete badass.
The same thing goes for hair. If you think you’ll look horrible with short hair, you will. If you’re self-conscious about it after you cut it, you’ll look self-conscious. But if you truly embrace it? To me, that’s beauty, and the type of ladies I like to feature here on this blog.
The best way to accessorize short hair in my humble opinion? Huge, outlandish accessories. Personally, my drug of choice is a pair of bold glasses and/or obnoxiously large earrings. I’m guessing this reader might have a special place in her heart for necklaces.
And I wouldn’t expect anything less. It’s not like most girls with short hair are afraid of standing out. If we were afraid, we would look like this. And life’s way too short to be that boring.
